iLASIK: THE GOLD STANDARD

The decision to have laser vision correction is an important one. There are several different technologies available, but iLASIK has become the gold standard for best possible outcomes. The technology specific to an iLASIK procedure is the VISX star4 Excimer Laser, CustomVue Wavefront Technology and the blade-free IntraLase® Method.

With the IntraLase® method, pulses of laser light create the corneal flap, which is then lifted so the next step of LASIK— the reshaping of the cornea—can be performed. When the LASIK treatment is over, the flap is gently repositioned into place. This bladeless, computer-guided technology is more accurate than most of the mechanical microkeratomes (handheld devices with a thin metal blade) used to create a corneal flap. At Minnesota Eye Consultants, we only use the premium IntraLase method and no longer offer the microkeratome procedure.

Not everyone is a candidate for iLASIK. There are other methods that can create the same desired outcome in a different way, which is why it is essential to choose a surgeon that has the experience and knowledge required to determine the best treatment option for your eyes, and your individual situation.
