Your LASIK Evaluation
If you are tired of depending on glasses and contacts daily, there are many laser vision correction treatment options available. Refractive conditions, such as nearsightedness and farsightedness, can be corrected and laser vision correction surgery could be the best option for you and your lifestyle needs. The best way to know if you are a candidate for LASIK eye surgery is by having a complete eye exam with your eye doctor. Your physician will confirm whether you are nearsighted, farsighted and/or have astigmatism. Patients interested in undergoing LASIK or Refractive Surgery must not have any ocular health problems present, such as cataracts or untreated glaucoma.
The Day of Your Appointment
Please bring the following items to your evaluation.
- Registration and Medical History Forms. You’ll receive these in the mail once you schedule your appointment.
- Your Insurance cards and a Photo ID. Even if you are scheduled for a Free Screening, we will still take a copy of your insurance card and Photo ID for our records.
- If you do not qualify for a Free Screening and we are unable to bill your insurance, payment is due at the time of service. We do offer a same day discount, so please check with the front desk at the time of check-in.
- If you wear contact lenses, please bring a back-up pair of glasses.
LASIK Consultation
At Minnesota Eye Consultants, our qualified and experienced ophthalmologists will complete a thorough evaluation to determine which refractive procedure is right for you. A variety of measurements will be taken, including the thickness and shape of the cornea. The WaveScan system is used to capture the unique shape of the eye, considered to many as “the fingerprint of the eye”. An eye pressure reading as well as a full 3D mapping of the cornea is obtained during the visit. A refraction is performed and you’ll be dilated for the slit-lamp exam. (Please note, most people experience light sensitivity and difficulty with near vision, such as reading, when dilated. Some individuals also have difficulty seeing in the distance. The effects of the dilation can last several hours, and we recommend bringing a pair of sunglasses to wear home following the evaluation.) Following the slit-lamp exam, the surgeon will discuss which custom treatment they recommend, and answer any questions you may have.
At Minnesota Eye Consultants, we offer FREE LASIK screenings to new patients that have not had previous eye surgery! During your free LASIK screening, you can obtain answers to your questions directly from the doctors that perform the procedures.
